South Eastern University holds 'Open Access' program

An awareness program on 'Open Access for Scholarly communication',
organised by the Science Library of the South Eastern University of Sri
Lanka was held recently at the Faculty of Applied Sciences.
The aim was to provide the lecturers, instructors and researchers of
the Faculty of Applied Sciences a comprehensive knowledge in open access
publications such as open access books and journals. In addition
motivating academics and researchers to publish their research papers in
open access journals and archiving their publications at open access
repositories were paid special emphasis.
Advantages of open access policies were explained by the resource
personnel at the program, which would increase the readability and
accessibility of the publication of our researchers which would again
give greater impact and citations of the publications. It was further
discussed at length about the Ranking of Web of World Universities
(RWWI) based on webometric studies while making Open Access policy as
mandate the place of our University rank at the RWWI will be raised. It
was realised that developing an institutional Repository (IR) is a joint
venture of faculty and library.
Dean, senior lecturers, lecturers, instructors, demonstrators of the
Faculty of Applied Sciences and senior assistant librarians
participated. M.M. Rifaudeen, Librarian, South Eastern University of Sri
Lanka and Mrs. M.M. Mashroofa Hameem, Senior Asst. Librarian, Science
Library participated as resource personnel.An exhibition on 'Pamphlets,
Dictionaries, and Encyclopaedia' organised by the Science Library was
opened by Dr. M.I.S. Safeena, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences
South Eastern University of Sri Lanka.
