SLSCA should permit International Schools to play in All-Island
Schools Tourneys
by Priyan de Silva - Matara Sports Corr.
The Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association (SLSCA) is the only schools
sporting body that has deprived International Schools in the island from
participating in the all island schools tournaments it conducts.
It is time that the SLSCA opens its doors to enable international
schools to play in division three of the schools cricket tournament from
2013.
Sri Lankan cricketing legend Aravinda de Silva was of the same
opinion speaking to media in Matara last week. "In my search for young
cricketing talent through the 'Coca Cola pathway' camps I have come
across many talented youngsters who attend international schools.
They were deprived of initial nomination to attend the camps because
they had not participated in the schools tournaments.
It is time the SLSCA permits international schools to play in the
all-island schools tournament" he said.
Dilshan de Silva, Secretary of the SLSCA when contacted said that the
Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association is considering the request and
that there was a possibility that international schools would be playing
in the division three of the tournaments in the future.
It is hoped for a start, the education authorities will start with
the under 13 cricket tournament in 2013.
