Berendina conducts eye camp
Berendina Development Services (BDS) conducted an eye camp for 4,215
client families in Dehiowita. As many as 1,565 of the clients needed
further eye care; 1,427 needed spectacles and 38 were diagnosed for
cataract operations. This shows that over 30 percent of the families had
at least one person needing eye care.
The organisers said that they were appalled at the state of eye care
in an area 48 km from the capital, and 5.7 km from Avissawella.
BDS provides free pairs of spectacles and lenses for cataract
operations to clients as part of its overall program. Berendina has
provided spectacles to over 15,000 people and lenses for 1,331 cataract
operations in rural and plantation areas.
