SLT launches rush and reed calendar
Sri Lanka Telecom PLC (SLT) has launched a calendar for 2013 using
rush and reed. This is a CSR initiative taken by SLT to sustain the
industry.
The calendar will create awareness by providing industry stakeholders
exposure to markets while promoting the industry.
"We have taken measures to take the rush and reed industry to an
international level and have identified skilled craftsmen to develop a
long-term relationship. There will be an Indian exhibition next year to
display Sri Lankan craftsmanship and SLT will sponsor our efforts to
preserve the industry for the future," Chairman National Arts Council,
Buddhi Keerthisena said.
"This type of art and culture themed calendar which has been printed
for the past ten years, focuses on culture, nature and heritage of Sri
Lanka. It contains selected art forms that are closely related to our
lives. It highlights our rich heritage, indigenous talent and diversity.
The SLT calendar positions itself as a piece of art among the high
profile and popular corporate calendars", he said.
"The annual SLT calendar is an important milestone for the company
and I am delighted to note the respect and appreciation it evokes from
anyone who sees it. It was designed and produced by our own staff," SLT,
CEO Greg Young said.
The calendar focuses on rush and reed craft, to highlight this
intricate craft and its skilled weavers. This craft has relevance in
today's world as products are made from eco-friendly material, he said.
