Call to eradicate dengue in schools

The Education Ministry has called upon the heads of over 9,000 schools in the country to continue with the on going mosquito eradication programs in their school compounds even during the current vacation and help the 'Cleaning Schools Environment' program which minimised dengue breeding grounds in school premises to a greater extent during the past eleven months.

According to the `Cleaning School Environment' program which was initially launched by Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala, the members of over 6,000 school clubs and societies participated in dengue eradication programs in their respective schools even during holidays.

Education Minister Bandula Gunawardane appreciated the importance of creating a healthy society and said that school children's participation on dengue eradication programs will be streamlined and strengthened during the next year too.
