Sri Pada season begins on 27 th
The Sri Pada pilgrimage season would commence on December 27 at 12.00
midnight. It will end on the Full Moon Poya day in May 2013.
As the initial event, a procession carrying the statue of God Saman
will be made to Sri Pada via Ratnapura, Hatton Maskeliya and
Nallathanni.
Livestock and Rural Community Development Minister Arumugam Thondaman
visited the Chief Incumbents of Pothgul Rajamaha Vihara, Pelmadulla
Rajamaha Vihara, and the Sri Pada temple to discuss the measures to be
taken to facilitate the pilgrimage.
The relics casket which is to be taken to Nallathanni, will be
expositioned in several areas in the up-country for people to pay
homage. Special transport facilities, healthcare services, higher
security measures and road repairs will be provided for the pilgrims'
benefit.
