The Sri Pada pilgrimage season would commence on December 27 at 12.00 midnight. It will end on the Full Moon Poya day in May 2013.

As the initial event, a procession carrying the statue of God Saman will be made to Sri Pada via Ratnapura, Hatton Maskeliya and Nallathanni.

Livestock and Rural Community Development Minister Arumugam Thondaman visited the Chief Incumbents of Pothgul Rajamaha Vihara, Pelmadulla Rajamaha Vihara, and the Sri Pada temple to discuss the measures to be taken to facilitate the pilgrimage.

The relics casket which is to be taken to Nallathanni, will be expositioned in several areas in the up-country for people to pay homage. Special transport facilities, healthcare services, higher security measures and road repairs will be provided for the pilgrims' benefit.
