Galle Face to Mt. Lavinia coastline to be developed

With steps being undertaken to establish a modern Colombo City adjacent to the Colombo South Harbour by reclaiming several hundred acres of land from the sea, arrangements are now under way to develop the coastline from the Galle Face Hotel complex to the Mount Lavinia Hotel limits.

A meeting to discuss these proposed development activities was held at Temple Trees recently under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

It was revealed at this meeting that plans have been made to beautify this stretch of beach and to prevent coastal erosion. The project is due to be completed within three years at an estimated cost of US$ 25 million.

The President discussed with the participants the practical implementation of the project and the steps needed to be taken in the future.

Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa, Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga and Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Dr. P.B. Jayasundera participated in the discussions. -News.lk
