New geological realities
by Dr. Saliya Kularatne
Prof. Atula Senaratne, the Vice Chancellor of the University of
Peradeniya and a geologist of international repute, has outlined the
remarkable pattern of earthquakes and tremors when an earthquake occurs
once at a point and there is a possibility of having an earthquake on
the same place exactly after eight years from the first one.

Vice Chancellor of the University of
Peradeniya, Prof. Atula Senaratne |
Conducting extensive research on an unbeaten track, using all data of
earthquakes at the Geological Institute of America, he observed that if
one would go back examining the date pertaining to the earthquakes, it
is possible to locate a certain pattern of occurring earthquakes and
earthquakes have occurred on a given place exactly eight years ago. What
is obvious from Prof. Senaratne's observation is that earthquakes are a
cyclical activity. No researcher has so far discovered this unique
pattern. Prof. Senaratne said that the earthquake occurred in 2004 in
the islands of Sumatra in Indonesia may occur again in December 2012. In
Japan, an earthquake occurred in March 2011 and an earthquake had
occurred there eight years ago. According to his observations,
predictions can be made of potential earthquakes in earthquake-prone
regions.
Prof. Senaratne observes a certain ratio with regard to cyclical
activities of earth quacks and therefore, predictions can be made based
on that ratio. Although it is not exactly the same ratio system, Hebrews
used a system of numerology somewhat similar to this system. According
to Hebrew numerology, certain numbers are assigned specific meanings.
For instance, number 16 is called Carrot Key which means the 16 is the
number of downfall. Napoleon was defeated in 1815 and he was 46 years
old at the time of his defeat. If one adds his age to the year 1815, one
gets 1961 and one could 16 by adding the numbers in a raw. So 16 denotes
Napoleon's defeat.
Prof. Atula Senaratne has done extensive research in the field of
Geology and authored thousands of research papers and articles to
academic journals. One of the important features of his research papers
is that they have been often cited and reproduced in national journals
and in the internet. Some of his research papers he co-authored with
Prof. C.B. Dissanayake include 'Dissanake, C.B Senarathne A, 1981
Paleo-geographical reconstruction of Jaffna peninsula J. Geal.Soc.india,
23;369-377, Dissanayake C.B, Senarathne A. 1982, Geochemical
Environments and the Geographical distribution of some diseases in Sri
Lanka, water, air and soil pollution 17 (1); 17-28). One of the
important research papers he wrote using the above and many other
sources, on link between planets and earth quacks is "Atula Senarathne,
Deepal Chandima and T.B.K. Basnayake 2011; Decoding links between
planetary configurations and earthquakes".
Prof. Senarathne said there are different types of research. Most of
the research are basic in the nature of reporting while others are done
with the objective of securing a financial grant. Another type of
research is based on crisis situation and with the intention of finding
out a solution.
For instance, research conducted on kidney ailments. Some believe
that they may be caused by the agro-chemicals used in agriculture and
others believe they are caused by the use of chemical fertiliser.
However, Prof. Senarathne is of the view that kidney ailments are caused
by genetic tendency which is stimulated by environmental factors.
An important area of Prof. Senarathne's studies is the uncertain
knowledge of the earth core. In fact, the geologists' knowledge of the
earth core is uncertain. There are no devices which can monitor the
activities of the earth below 30,000 kilometres from the earth's
surface. If the scientists know the activities of the earth, they can
predict the next earthquake. It is believed that there is a granite
layer from 20 kilometres below the surface and melted matter 4,000
kilometres below and very hot liquid below 1,000 kilometers from that
layer. However, these facts are hypothetical.
