Special traffic plans for 7th Deyata Kirula
by Mohammed Naalir
Special traffic plans will be implemented in the Ampara town and
adjoining areas during the 7th Deyata Kirula national exhibition, Ampara
Range Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Indika Nalin Jayawickrama
said.
He said moves are in place to deploy nearly 5,000 police officers to
provide protection to site-seers and maintain law and order in the city.
The SSP said the assistance of the STF, Navy and Air Force will be
obtained to strengthen the security in the city and the surrounding
areas.
The 5,000 police officers will be deployed in three zones, one of
which will handle the vehicle routes, the second will be kept in touch
with the movement of spectators and in the third zone around 1,000
police officers in civil will be deployed.
The Police have found four access roads leading to Ampara from
regions, such as Maha Oya-Uhana route, Sammanthurai-Kalmunai,
Akkaraipattu-Pottuvil, Damana-Siyambalanduwa and Inginiyagala route, the
SSP said.
Vehicle parks will be set up in suitable locations along the routes
provided with special facilities. As these roads are not sufficient to
accommodate all vehicles and the people who visit the exhibition site,
plans are afoot to deploy shuttle bus service to the exhibition site
from various locations, SSP Jayawickrama said.
Police officers will be deployed in Deegawapi, Buddhangala, Pottuvil
and Sammanthurai areas, he said.
Police lifeguard officers will also be deployed in close proximity to
reservoir areas.
The police will take steps to prevent environment pollution during
the exhibition, the SSP said.
