Mobitel goes for region-specific news alert service

Mobitel last week launched a region-specific news alert service partnering with The Kandy News, the English and Sinhala monthly regional journal of Media Vision (Pvt) Ltd.

The news alert service caters to Mobitel customers in the Kandy district.

Region specific news alerts have been a long-felt need and launching this service first in Kandy seemed most appropriate considering its large and diverse population and wide variety of interests ranging from tourism to sporting events, said General Manager, Sales and Distribution of Mobitel, Pubudu Indratissa.

The Kandy News carries region-specific news and news analysis which is of interest to local residents but does not get adequate coverage in the national media.

Mobitel customers can subscribe to this service and get news alerts in English or Sihala.

This service addresses the need of customers to be better informed in a timely manner about local events that are of importance to improve the quality of life of the people in the area.

"We ensure that the news will reach our subscribers faster and more conveniently than other traditional news media," he said.
