State-owned companies to handle road development projects

The Government plans to set up three State-owned companies to handle road development projects to improve the existing road network.

The Cabinet approved a proposal by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, in his capacity as the Minister of Ports and Highways, to set up the three Maga Neguma companies under the Road Development Authority (RDA).

Maga Neguma Construction Equipment Company (Pvt) Ltd. will provide construction equipment and machinery to those engaged in road development for a fee. The company will also undertake and complete road construction projects under Rs. l00 million awarded by the RDA.

The Maga Neguma Emulsion Production Company (Pvt) Ltd. will manufacture and supply products such as emulsion and pre-mix for road development projects.

Maga Neguma Consultancy and Management Company (Pvt) Ltd. will provide consultancy services for the preparation of bills of quantities and project proposals.
