Villagers of Eee Dandukitha a remote village in Morawaka (Matara
District) donated 983 pints of blood to the Blood Bank on February 4.
The blood donation program was organised by the Matara branch of the Sri
Lanka Red Cross Society and the ‘Parami’ Art Circle of Eee Dandukitha to
mark Sri Lanka’s 65th year of independence.
Prasad Chandana, Executive Officer of SLRCS’s Matara branch said that
983 donors at one campaign is a Southern province record which surpasses
947 pints of blood donated at Tissamaharamaya last year. An official of
the blood bank said that more than 3,000 pints of blood was donated at a
campaign organised by Udaya Enterprises at Dehiwela in 2010 and stands
as the most number of donors at a campaign.
The villagers of Eee Dandukitha provided meals and transport to all
donors from the Vivekaramaya Viharaya to their residences.
