Special unit to monitor religious places

A special operations room has been set up at the Police Headquarters in Colombo 1, to monitor complaints made by members of the public against those who hurl abuse and insults and desecrate places of religious worship. The Ops room will function from 8.00 am today and operate round-the-clock, Police Media Spokesman, SSP Prishantha Jayakody said.

The facility has been provided to overcome difficulties, the public may encounter when making such complaints at police stations.

Any person can now complain directly to the hotline No. 011-3182904 or 011-3188753 or send a fax to 011-2423944 regarding threats to any religious denomination in any part of the country.
