Vavuniya and Jaffna in TT tournament

History was created when 55 paddlers from Vavuniya District and 65 paddlers from the Jaffna District participated at the all island Independence Day unranked table tennis championship organised by the Asian/German Exchange Program in collaboration with the Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka, Jaffna District Table Tennis Association and the Vavuniya District Table Tennis Association and worked off at the Indoor Stadium of St. Thomas College, Mount Lavinia this week.

Members of all the communities including Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim participated. There were 432 participants. The objectives of this tournament was to foster and promote cordial relationship among different communities from different regions and to give an opportunity for players from Jaffna and Vavuniya.

Abans Limited provided meals and refreshments from the Nilaweli Peace Village provided the medals for the winners, and Aquarius Beach Hotel provided the certificates. The accommodation for players was provided by Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Director General of Sports Mrs. Ranjini Jayakody and Deputy Director of Sports Sajith Jayalal were present.
