Viveka Samarasinghe's latest book Sanvardhanaya Saha Sannivedana Sameekshana was launched as a Godage publication recently. The development of a country and mass communication go hand in hand. The author is qualified to write a book of this nature as she worked as a journalist for a long time and read mass communication for her degree at the University of Kelaniya.At a time communication has become a subject in schools, students will find the book useful for their studies. Samarasinghe discusses what is development, where it begins and how to make use of mass communication for development efforts. She has drawn inspiration from the United Nations' development plan and how China used mass communication to augment rural development. Although it is a small book its message is loud and clear.

The author explains what is instinct, Darwin's theory and the collapse of old concepts, types of instincts, instinct and chemical signals, glands of animals and plans, human chemical signals, and chemical signals and the commercial world. The book is useful for chemistry students.

Early Sri Lankan Cinema and its Association with the South Indian Film Industry

Early Sri Lankan Cinema and its Association with the South Indian Film Industry, written by Ashley Ratnavibhushana and M.L.M. Mansoor, will be launched at the National Film Corporation auditorium today at 5.30 p.m. Dr. Aruna Vasudev, President Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) will be the guest of honour. NETPAC is honorary Secretary Wong Tuck Cheong will also participate in the launching ceremony.

The Malayalam film Kutty Srank, directed by Shaji N. Karun will be screened after the ceremony.

The book is jointly published by the NETPAC and the Asian Film Centre. It is distributed by the Sarasavi Bookshop, Nugegoda.

Ven. Borelle Kovida Thera's Pujya Kotugoda Nahimi Dharma Deshana will be launched at the Dayawansa Jayakody Bookshop, Colombo 10 on March 5 at 10 a.m.
