Measures to be introduced to control kidney disease

The recommendations of the World Health Organization will be implemented immediately to control the kidney disease, Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena said.

The Minister said Rajarata is vulnerable for the kidney disease which is now unfortunately spreading in other parts of the country too. The disease should be controlled. Solutions have been found for several diseases including Tuberculosis (TB), according to Minister Sirisena.

Due to commercial and trade activities too, several diseases spread in the country, he pointed out.He said experts have also confirmed that kidney disease is spreading rapidly. Proposals have been submitted to the Cabinet to be discussed and immediate decisions taken to find ways to control the disease.

A sub-committee has been set up comprising representatives of various ministries. The recommendations of the committee will be implemented immediately. The Government spends Rs. 125 billion for the health sector alone. The Government spends between Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 10,000 for every internal patient per day, Minister Sirisena said. The Government spends Rs. 15 million on a cancer patient, the Health Minister said.
