Kinross Six-Mile Sea Swim today
100 men and 7 women have entered for the 48th Annual Open Six-Mile
Sea Swim conducted by Kinross Swimming and Life Saving Club on today,
March 31.The swim starts at 7.30 a.m. Opposite the Kinross Club at
Wellawatte and the competitors will swim up to a turning point at Mount
Lavinia and swim back to a finish point located opposite the Club. The
time limit for the swimmers to complete the course is 4 hours and 30
minutes. Last year at the 47th Annual Six-Mile Swim, the men’s race was
won by Kaushal Manawadu of St. Joseph’s College, Colombo in a time of 2
hours 25 minutes and 15 seconds while in the women’s race, Imesha
Sewwandi of Sri Devananda Vidyalaya, Ambalangoda emerged the winner in a
timing of 2 hours 46 minute and 56 seconds.
The following Challenge Trophies will be on offer and there will be
cash prizes too.
1. M.G. Sirimanne Memorial Challenge Trophy for the winner of the
men’s race.
2. John Roche Challenge Trophy for the winner of the women’s race.
3.Turab A. Jafferjee Memorial Challenge Trophy for the men’s team
championship.
4. Guy Theideman Challenge Trophy for the women’s team championship.
5. Dama Perera Challenge Trophy for the 1st male Kingross Swimmer to
finish within the time.
6. George de Bruin Challenge Trophy for the 1st female Kinross Swimmer
to finish within the time.
7. Maharajah Challenge Trophy for the youngest male swimmer to finish
within the time.
8. President’s Challenge Trophy for the youngest female swimmer to
finish within the time.
9. Tissa Ariyaratne Challenge Trophy for the oldest swimmer to finish
