APCERT celebrates 10th anniversary

The Asia Pacific Computer Emergency Response Teams (APCERT)
celebrated its 10th anniversary with the 10th APCERT Conference and
Annual General Meeting in Brisbane, Australia, recently. CERT Australia
hosted the twin event.
The event was an opportunity for cyber security professionals to
compare experiences and related issues and to share knowledge and
expertise.
Sri Lanka CERT-CC the national body for cyber security in Sri Lanka
and a member of APCERT took part. The theme of the celebration 'Then,
Now and Beyond', enabled all the teams to review the past, the present
and look to the future.
Sri Lanka CERT contributed to the success of several working groups
for APCERT policy and new operational framework development to meet new
challenges facing internet infrastructure in the region.
Sri Lanka CERT, CEO Lal Dias served as the pro tem chairman in the
election of a governing council for APCERT. A public conference was also
held after the Annual General Meeting.
Several eminent personalities from around the world spoke at the
conference.
There were three panel discussions. Sri Lanka CERT Principal
Information Security Engineer, Rohana Palliyaguru chaired one of them
and the topic was 'Malware, Hacking and Advanced Persistent Threat'
(APT).
It was agreed by participating countries that they work together in
identifying and stalling cyber threats. A software to deal with such
situations was given to those who participated.
Sir Lanka CERT-CC, a subsidiary of the ICT Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA)
was set up in 2003 to enhance cooperation between region's CERTs. |
