Hill capital in full swing

The festive season of Nuwara Eliya has started with a welcome shower
last Wednesday, after a dry spell for several weeks.
With the salubrious climes prevailing, and with the full months
seasonal festivities programs organised by the Nuwara Eliya Municipal
Council, headed by Mayor Mahinda Kumara Dodambage, together with the
Nuwara Eliya festivities committee, Nuwara Eliya is geared to attract
one of the largest holiday crowds, both local sand foreigners.
There was false rumour that there would be lull as the Muslims will
not patronise Nuwara Eliya during the current festive season, but on the
contrary, the town is crowded with more Muslims than usual during this
festive season here.
According to the police sources, all security arrangements have been
beefed up owing to the large influx of holiday makers this year, and all
vulnerable points have been tightened with plain cloth service personnel
to keep close vigilance.
Several seasonal programs have been included such as sports events,
Tennis and Golf Tournaments the Water Sports introduced by the Navy this
year the Lake Gregory, which has become the Centre of Seasonal
festivities in Nuwara Eliya around the popular Lake Gregory area is the
centre of added attraction this year.
The Festivities committee here has introduced several other programs
with fun and frolic for the entertainment of both young and old.
To add more splendour to the April season in the plantation sector
the temple festivals are being held to coincide with 'Panguni Wthiram'
including religions rituals and decorated temple chariots being taken
around the estates. |
