Bogeys uncouple from Trinco train

Two passenger compartments of the Trincomalee-bound night mail from Colombo got uncoupled around 3.00 am between Gal Oya and Kalugaswewa on Wednesday leaving the passengers stranded in elephant-infested jungles.

The engine and the other compartments went a few miles before it was realised that the last two compartments were missing.

The train was reversed and the bogeys were joined to the train and it left for Trincomalee.

According to a spokesman for the Trains Control in Anuradhapura, the operation took 37 minutes.
