A match-bag of 11 for 79....:

Imran's missiles wreck India

Kapil Dev was seen in a fine allround performance, making 73 in the Indian first innings score of 169. He also took 5 for 102 in Pakistan’s total of 452. But, it was not enough to stop Pakistan winning the
match by an innings.
Mudassar Nazar made a fine knock of 119 and with Zaheer Abbas built up the Pakistan
total to 452 runs.
Imran Khan was seen in a fine bowling performance, claiming 3 for 19 and then had a record haul of 8 for 60 in the Indian second innings to help Pakistan win the match by an
innings.

FLASHBACK: Pakistan's Imran Khan has been a pace bowler of consistent accuracy and hostility in the world of cricket in the early eighties. It is difficult to imagine a paceman who does as much with the ball and thoroughly as Imran. Speed by itself is great weapon, but when it combines with movement off the seam either way, it assumes a uncontrollable agony to which there is no batting counter. Playing against India, Imran Khan had a match-haul of 11 for 79 and he had a big hand in their victory.

India's reputation for disciplined batting straight down the order took its severest blow in years when Imran Khan carved out Pakistan's biggest win over India at the National Stadium in Karachi. He dominated the Test like a Colossus from the start when he chose to put India in, to underline his aggressive desires. He could not maintain a stronghold in Lahore, but here he turned on the screw tight giving no avenue for escape.

On a wicket helping pace in Karachi, Imran fished the Indians to the brink of disaster in the first innings though Imran was only minimally successful and he claimed 3 for 19 in the first innings and though his contribution to the collapse was not big, it was more on the psychological front. He got the Indian batsmen into a state of defensiveness and had them cornered. India lost five wickets for 70 runs and it was a poor start. There was only Kapil Dev to weather the storm of Imran Khan. Kapil Dev made 73 and there was no one else to calm the Pakistanis down. India were all out for 169 in the first innings.

Zaheer Abbas – a fine batting display in scoring 186 for Pakistan in their total of 452 against India. Pakistan went on to beat India by an innings and 86 runs.
D.B. Vengsakar – the Indian made 79 for India in the second innings to somewhat steady the side’s batting, but it was not enough to stop Pakistan from winning the match.

Came Pakistan's turn to bat and they too, had on unhappy start, losing 3 wickets for 18 runs, but then the Pakistanis settled down to some serious batting and gradually got on top of the bowling. There was that ever willing batsman Zaheer Abbas (186) and Mudasar Nazar (119) who weathered the storm of the Indian bowlers thereafter with some good batting Zaheer Abbas, in extending the borders of his batting conquests, took the game right out of India's hands.A near blemishless century which Zaheer built along the finest lines of good batting technique, established the Pakistan reply to such an extent that Mudassar Nazar improved under the shade of the master's brilliance. By the time spin was introduced, Zaheer and Mudassar were in such control of events that the bowling somewhat went haywires. But before Zaheer got-together with Mudassar, there was that attacking batsman Javed Miandad whose quickfire 39 and their fourth-wicket partnership of 110 runs stemmed the early slump and laid the foundation for a big score. Then came the fireworks when Zaheer Abbas and Mudassar Nazar were together. There was Imran Khan who made 33 while Wasim Bari got 30. Pakistan ran up the somewhat big score of 452 in their fist innings.

India's opening bowlers Kapil Dev (5 for 102) and Madan Lal (3 for 129) were the successful bowlers.

Came India's second innings and apart from D.B. Vengasarkar (79) and Madan Lal who made 52 not out lower down the order, the rest of the batting folded up after Sunil Gavaskar had made 42 when he opened the innings.

It was left for Pakistan skipper Imran Khan to help himself to a harvest of wickets. He went onto take 8 for 60 in the Indian second innings total of 197 and it was Pakistan - the winners by an innings and 86 runs.
