Azwer gets death threats
Parliamentarian A.H.M. Azwer has received death threats by phone.
Some callers from Kalmunai threatened him, saying that he would be
killed before Ramazan in June, alleging the he is a traitor of Muslims
for supporting President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Azwer has brought this to the notice of the police and requested them
to investigate the calls suspected to be emanating from extremists.
Higher Education Ministry Media Secretary passes away
Higher Education Minister S.B. Dissanayake’s Media Secretary K.
Mangala Janaka passed away yesterday after a brief illness. He served as
the Media Secretary to Minister Dissanayake for over 20 years and had
gained a reputation as having a close rapport with journalists.
His remains lie at No.206, Samanala Mawatha, Uyandana, Kurunegala.
Funeral will take place at Kurunegala General Cemetery tomorrow at
4.00pm.
Visakha medical camp
A free medical camp, organised annually by the Past Visakhian
Doctors' Association of the VisakhaVidyalaya Old Girls' Association,
will be held on May 5 from 8.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. at the school
premises. It will benefit past and present principals and teachers, as
well as the non-academic staff of the school.
Commonwealth Day
The Royal Commonwealth Society Sri Lanka will observe the
Commonwealth Day 2013 on Friday, May 10 at 7 p.m. at the Hotel Galadari.
The High Commissioner for Australia Ms. Robyn Mudie will be the chief
guest.
Holy Cross OBU website launch on May 5
The old Boys Union of Holy Cross College, Kalutara will launch its
official website on May 5 at 10.00 a.m. at the College auditorium, with
the launch of a fund-raising campaign for construction of a swimming
pool. The "Holy Cross Walk 2013" and "Musical Nite with Marians" to be
held on July 20 will also taken as the agenda.
The 'Walk' and the 'Nite' are coordinated by Rev. Fr. Camillus

SLIOP seminar on May 12
Sri Lanka Institute of Printing (SLIOP) has organised a seminar on
'Graphic Design and Multimedia Education' on May 12 from 8.30 a.m. to
2.30 p.m. at the Institute. The seminar will give an exposure and
understanding on the use of essential graphic software packages used in
the industry.

Hearing impairment
Baby K.A.W. Gayathri Sandaruwani Kirindiketiya is suffering from
hearing deficiency. ENT Surgeon, Dr. H.M. Sisira Bandara Ethulgama of
the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Specialised Children's Hospital, Peradeniya
has recommended a corrective device which is estimated to cost Rs. 21 to
27 lakhs. Her parents who find it difficult to meet such expenses appeal
for contributions from the public to be remitted to A/c No. 8730025842

Liver transplant
Eight-year-old W.M. Asitha Gimhan of 83/4 G, Galahitiyawa,
Siyambalape is suffering from liver disease and is in urgent need of a
transplant. At present, he is under treatment of Prof. Mandika
Wijeyaratne at the Professional Vascular and Transplant Unit of the
National Hospital, Colombo.
His parents, W.M. Sulalitha and Samanthi Peiris, who are in dire
financial straits, appeal to the public for financial assistance.
