The Court has ordered the hospital authorities to ascertain whether a
suspect in a murder case was a man or woman.
The prime suspect, Rupika Damayanthi who is charged in the alleged
Mahasenpura double murder of a man and his wife was produced in the
Kuchchaveli Circuit Magistrate’s Court along with another suspect Imali
Priyadharshani, the daughter of the slain couple.
Police told the court that the two had indulged in lesbianism and
when Priyadharshani’s parents came to know about it they had warned
their daughter.
The first suspect, Damayanthi had associated with Priyadharshani. She
earned a living by climbing coconut trees and plucking nuts.
She was also addicted to liquor, heroin, ganja and cigarettes. Police
also said she behaved like a man in every respect and, therefore asked
the court to order the Trincomalee hospital to examine her to ascertain
her gender.
The suspects are alleged to have killed the couple for being an
obstacle to their immoral practice.
