Moonstone auctioned in Britain, a replica
National Heritage Minister Dr. Jagath Balasuriya has said that the
moonstone which was auctioned in Britain recently is not a genuine
artifact, but is only a replica.
Sri Lankan authorities had directed Dr. Wijerathne Bohingamuwa of the
Cambridge University to conduct a special investigation into the origin
of the moonstone.
The investigation had revealed that the moonstone is just a replica
which was made in Sri Lanka and brought to Britain by a British planter
in 1950.
