Sri Lanka's economy shows much progress - Koshi Mathai
Sri Lanka's economy has shown much progress and
growth is satisfactory when taken in the global context, said IMF,
resident reperesentative, Koshi Mathai.Explaining the IMF view of
the Sri Lankan economy after the completion of the Article IV
consultative meeting, he said that the 6.4 percent economic growth
rate last year was positive in the global context.

TSHDA launches e-services
The Tea Small Holdings Development Authority
(TSHDA) last week launched e-services to improve efficiency and
reduce administrative costs of the services provided by the
Authority. The general manager of the TSHDA, G. B. Obeysekera said
that this initiative under e-Sri Lanka program was launched with the
support of the ICTA.

Pakistan eases tariff on three Lankan commodities
Boosting Lanka-Pakistan bilateral trade levels
and cooperation ahead of the next JEC meet, Pakistan has eased
tariffs on three Lankan commodities it directly imports from Sri
Lanka, Ministry of Industry and Commerce sources said. According to
the Department of Commerce, Pakistan imports 5,000-6,000 mt of betel
leaves annually.

Millennium Airlines to strengthen wings
Millennium Airlines will invest $ 2-3 million on
a Bell 407, six-seater helicopter this year, said Millennium
Airlines, Vice Chairman, Suren R. Mirchandani. He said that the
helicopter will carry six passengers in VIP ‘club seating’
configuration and added that it will be the most advanced civilian
helicopter in the country.

Trade deficit declined in February
Earnings from exports declined by 2.9 percent,
year-on-year, to $ 798 million in February 2013, as earnings from
agricultural exports and industrial exports declined. Earnings from
exports of agricultural commodities declined mainly as a result of
lower earnings from rubber and coconut exports.
