A senior officer attached to the Nugegoda Police Division told the Sunday Observer the police has information that would help to identify the suspects and their whereabouts.

A welfare officer of a private company had withdrawn Rs. 1,050, 000 from a private bank in Malabe and was transporting the cash to the company in his car with another woman.

He had however stopped on the way to collect his daughter from Yashodara Balika Vidyalaya. When the officer had gone inside the school, a white van had stormed the scene with two men armed with knives. The looters had threatened the woman at knife point and had fled with the bag carrying the money. The police believe that the suspects must have followed the officer’s car from the bank at the time of the withdrawal.
