Isipathana win at last - beat Joes

Isipathana College, Colombo ended their barren run in the Singer 'A'
Division League by overcoming St. Joseph's College, Colombo by 30 points
(two goals, two tries, two penalties) to 21 (three goals) to register
their first win at Longden Place yesterday after leading 25-21 at
lemons.

Josephians opened scoring through a try by Jason Melder converted by
Shamilka Kurumbalapitiya (7-0). A few minutes later, the Josephians went
ahead further when Akila Hendalage scored a try with Shamilka
Kurumbalapitiya adding the extra points and the Joes were sitting pretty
with the 14-0 lead.
The Isipathanians reduced the deficit with Hirantha Perera firing
across two penalties. Then the lads from Havelock Town scored a try
through flanker Shenal Deelaka with Hirantha Perera making the
conversion. Joes 14-13.
But the Josephians snatched the lead once again when burly skipper
and Number Eight Jason Melder crashed through for try with Shamilka
Kurumbalapitiya adding the extra points and the score read 21-13.
The lads from Havelock Town cut down the deficit when Omalka
Gunaratne fell over for an unconverted try 21-18.
Just before the breather, Sheranga Panchama touched down to with
Hirantha Perera adding the extra points and Isipathana led 25-21 at
lemons.
Isipathana put the issue beyond doubt when Number Eight B.H.U.
Premaratne fell over for an unconverted try to give Isipathana their
first win for the 2013 season with a 30-21 win.
