Waterfalls in Sri Lanka

Bomburu Ella - Badulla district

The beautiful Bomburu Ella waterfall is in the Uva - Paranagama provincial division in the Badulla District. Bpmburu Ella waterfall's height is about 50m. Some people have identified the waterfall as Perawella falls but the real name is Bomburu waterfall.

You can visit the Bomburu waterfall and visit vast acres of potato and vegetable cultivation in Welimada.

Bomburu Ella is not very close to the main road but is about 500m from main road and you have to go on foot.

What is fascinating is that on the way to the falls there are little waterfalls above it.

Bomburu Ella is between the border of Nuwara Eliya and Badulla districts.

There is a valley in the Nuwara Eliya district and water comes to the falls. The December-January and April -May seasons are ideal to visit this waterfall. -Internet

Duwili Ella - Sinharaja

Duwili Ella is a well-known waterfall . The meaning of the word Duwili is dust in Sinhala, therefore, several waterfalls in Sri Lanka are known as Duwili Ellas because the water that spouts from the fall is a mountain of dust .

However, this particular Duwili Ella is in the Sinharaja world heritage rain forest of Sri Lanka. This waterfall can be accessed from the Deniyaya - Pitadeniya entrance of the southern province.

Hariyawa water stream

The Hariyawa water stream is in southern Sri Lanka and mingles with the Ginganga in the Sinharaja nature reserve. The place, where the stream and Ginganaga meet is one of the deepest points of the stream. The Brahmana Ella is some 500 metres from this point. This point is not suitable for bathing.

However, there are many safe spots along the stream, where one can have a bath.

The gloomy dark surrounding due to thick jungle, keeps the water of the stream extremely cool even on very warm days. The water of the Hariyawa water stream hardly sees the sun rays due to the blockage of the thick canopy of trees. The water is crystal clear and clean while it is filtered by nature and still not touched by man.

There are five waterfalls originating from the Hariyawa stream and one of the most beautiful and popular waterfall is Duwili Ella.

The other waterfalls are Tattu ella, Gal oruwa ella, Uran wetunu ella, and Brahmana ella. From the point, where the stream meets the Ginangana, which marks the beginning of the journey to the waterfalls, to the last waterfalls is around 1/2 kilometres.

All these fascinating waterfalls can be viewed within a few hours due to the close proximity of each other.
