Thousands flock to Kataragama on Vesak Poya

Tens of thousands of devotees paid homage at the sacred Kiri Wehera and the shrine of Lord Skanda at Kataragama on Vesak Poya day.

The surroundings of the Kiri Wehera were a sea of heads with devotees carrying floral offerings and those who were in meditation.

The custodians of the shrine of Lord Skanda had taken steps to streamline the acceptance of offerings of fruit and devotees did not have to spend hours to make their offerings as in the past but the practice of favouring the affluent continued.
