Barking 'cops' arrest two suspects
Barking dogs are a common sight but barking cops can be considered as
a very rare occurrence.
This what some police officers of the New Haven police department had
to do when chasing two suspects who were wanted for stealing a car.
They had to improvise during a stand-off to coax the two suspects out
of a house by literally barking like dogs. The stand-off came after
investigators said the two men led them on a chase through Hamden into
the Elm City. Officers were called to a home on Emerson Street at after
masked men were seen entering the residence at 10:40 a.m.
The officer knew that the first floor was vacant, no one was home on
the second floor and there was a family on the third floor who were told
by police to lock their doors and stay put. A dozen officers surrounded
the multi-family house. "He's pretty scared to get back into his house,"
said Gideon Gurley, who witnessed the stand-off. "It's not good for the
neighbourhood." According to police, Kwame Wells-Jordan, 20, of Hamden
and Norman Boone, 23, of New Haven were holed up in the stairwell of the
home.
Police hostage negotiators threatened to unleash the canine units,
but the dogs weren't available. So they had officers pretend to bark
like dogs and it worked. The two men walked outside and were arrested on
the spot."They were trained. These cops were trained to do stuff like
that," Gurley said.
"I guess that was the best technique to do what they needed to do to
get people out."
Wells-Jordan and Boone, who both have long criminal histories, were
charged with theft of a motor vehicle and burglary.
The vehicle, which was stolen from Canada, was recovered by police.
Duped: Police in Connecticut lured out two suspects oled up in a
house by barking like dogs and then took the men, both in their early
twenties, into custody.
She buried the wrong cat
Just imagine the feeling you'll get when your dead pet comes back
alive after a lapse of few days. But for Karen Jones it was completely a
different experience. Heartbroken Keren shed a tear after the death of
her beloved pet cat Norman only to discover she had buried the wrong
animal.
Karen and her family were stunned when just a day after the funeral,
their black moggie turned up in the kitchen and began eating his meal.
Only then did Mrs Jones, 48, realise the dead cat she'd found in the
road after it was hit by a car was not Norman.
'We couldn't believe it,' she explained. 'We just picked him up and
started cuddling him.
'At first I thought he had been resurrected from the dead - but he
didn't know what all the fuss was about.
'Then I realised we must have had the wrong cat. It was incredibly
emotional because we had spent a whole day grieving.'Suddenly we found
ourselves switching from tears of sadness to tears of joy.'
Mrs Jones, who ran to the garden to see if Norman had dug himself out
of the ground, is hoping the owner of the cat buried in her garden in
Ashford, Kent, comes forward.

marvel. It was by accident this extremely rare privilege of having
double the amount of kidneys was discovered.

Jessica Curphey, 20, from Manchester, UK. was rushed to hospital
after she developed an excruciating pain on her right sides. Just weeks
earlier her GP had diagnosed a urine infection and had prescribed some
antibiotics.
Surgeons at St Helier Hospital, in Surrey, discovered the four
kidneys when they removed what they thought was a 17cm (6.5cm) cyst -
found to be a rupture to one of her extra organs. Miss Curphey, who is
from Manchester but studies at Surrey's University of Creative Arts,
said: 'It's quite fun watching how people react when you tell them that
you've got an extra kidney.
'I suppose it's weird not knowing what's going on inside your body
until something happens like with me. "It was a difficult experience but
I was looked after and I've come through it the other end and looking
forward to the future.' 'On the upside, I don't get as bad hangovers
like my friends, which is perhaps down to my extra kidneys.'
Scans revealed she actually had four kidneys, one of which was so
damaged it had to be surgically removed Consultant urological surgeon
Robyn Webber said: "Having three kidneys on a single side of the body is
exceptionally rare. There are perhaps fewer than 100 cases describe in
text books and papers." Hero helps catch burglar by pulling down his

Age, no bar to gain black belt in judo
 |
At the age of 78 Irwin Eaton is fit as
a fiddle and recently he was awarded the 2nd dan black belt
in Judo. |
A retired furniture salesman Irwin took up the sport after watching
his cousin take part nearly 20 years ago and was awarded his first black
belt as he celebrated his 70th birthday.
He said: "I love the fitness and it gives me real confidence. I just
want to give people a bit of inspiration. You're only as old as you
feel."
He is taught by 6th dan black belt Gary Donoughue, 58, whose youngest
member at the Yorkshire Judo club in Oakwood, Leeds, is four.
The teacher said of his eldest pupil: "He's such a character. I've
seen him go from a novice and I award him belts in every colour of the
rainbow.
"All the kids get up and cheer him on, he's a joy to have in the judo
club. Every week, Irwin has someone down on the mat. He is fit.
Hopefully he'll still be doing it when he's 100."
And Mr Eaton, of Moortown, has no thoughts of giving up the sport.
He said: "I'll carry on as long as I can. I will be 80 in two years
and that will just be the start of another challenge. I've got a lot
left in me yet. |
