ABA Men's and Women's Intermediate Boxing Meet 2013
The Amateur Boxing Association of Sri Lanka has organised another
competition for Sri Lankan pugilists to take part and get experience in
the intermediate category. Male and Female boxers between the ages of
19-40 years will face elimination bouts commencing from 27th - 31st May
2013 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Colombo, to bring to light Sri
Lanka's future winners at the National Levels.
The meet will commence on 27th of May 2013 at 4.00 pm and from 28th-
30th of May at 3.00 pm. The finals will be held on 31st May 2013 from
3.00 pm. The meet will be conducted according to the AIBA rules which
came in to effect from March 2013 and the scoring will be done under the
new scoring system.
This meet is open to all men and women, novice boxers who are over 19
years and below 40 years. The boxers who were born between 1973- 1994
are eligible to participate in this meet. The boxers who have won at
previous intermediate meets, open meets (Layton, Clifford and National)
or any other competition or equivalent meet to any of the above are not
eligible to take part in this meet. Fresher's will be allowed to take
part in this tournament. Only the winners and runners up of this meet
will be qualified to take part in the ABA Layton Cup, Clifford Cup and
Nationals Championships.
Women four rounds of two minutes each
The men's rounds will be three minutes each and a bout will consist
of three rounds. The women's bouts will consist of four rounds of two
minutes each. Both genders will be given an interval of one minute
between each round. All winners and 1st and 2nd Runners-ups will receive
medals/certificates. The weigh-in and medical examinations will be held
separately for men and women boxers between 8-10am on these days, whilst
the draw for the bouts will be held on 27th of May at 11am at the
Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Colombo.
At the last tournament P.P.D. Panagoda of ARMY RED BC and TLDM
Abeywardane of M.A.S. Thuruliea BC become the Best Men and women Boxer
men respectively whilst LM Suduwalikanda of Kotalawala Defense
University and WND Fernando of Army became men and women best losers.
The competition between Air Force, Army, Navy, Police and Linea (MAS)
boxers will be tough and robust. In the women's division, Air Force who
won the most number of bouts, at the recently held Novices will face MAS
Southern BC, Police and Navy boxers. This year's competition is expected
to contain a high standard of boxing. A large contingent of boxers have
sent applications from all the boxing clubs in the island. With the
encouragement given to the sports in the country, we can proudly
experience intense competition at the men's and women's intermediate
boxing meet which is to be held from 27th to 31st May at the Sugathadasa
indoor stadium, Colombo.
Mr Wazir Sourjah, a national champion and also the former secretary
of the national boxing association of Sri Lanka for the year 2006, will
grace the event with his presence as the chief guest.
