CCC launches 'Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Award'
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) will host the 'Best Corporate
Citizen Sustainability Award' later this year. 'Celebrating a decade of
corporate citizenship' will be this year's theme, with the awards having
reached its 10th year. As done previously, along with the top award, the
top 10 corporates will be honoured and recognised.
The awards, over the years have reflected the growing sophistication
and focus in the corporate citizenship field, with dozens of industry
leaders such as John Keells, Aitken Spence, Hayleys, Singer, Ceylon
Biscuits Diesel and Motor Engineering (DIMO), National Development Bank
(NDB) and People's Leasing which have been recognised for their
contribution to meet some of society's needs. This year the awards will
call for a strong contribution in sustainability, to encourage the
acceptance of social and ecological responsibility and identify role
models.
"The past 10 years reflects a turning point in the field of corporate
citizenship in Sri Lanka," said CCC Secretary General, Harin Malwatte.
"The Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Award has continuously
spotlighted successful and replicable models of important, positive
business impact on people, communities and environment.
We believe that in pioneering the awards, we have created role models
among industry leaders who have excelled in social and community
initiatives," he said.
"The awards are open to private and public sector entities," said CCC
Vice Chairman, Samantha Ranathunga.
"To encourage wider participation we have selected a diverse set of
criteria. Applications will be evaluated on environmental stewardship,
employee relations and development, customer and supplier relations,
community relations and social responsibility, economic contribution,
financial performance, governance and reporting," he said.
The Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Awards will be held on
November 26. The closing date for applications is September 27. |
