Free seminars for Year Five students

The National Savings Bank will conduct over 170 free seminars for Year Five students in Sinhala and Tamil.

"We have conducted over 1,000 free seminars over the past 13 years," a bank spokesman said.

The Hapan Scholarship seminars will focus mainly on preparing students for the Year Five scholarship examination.The seminars will be conducted by a group of senior qualified teachers.

Children over seven years can open and operate Hapan Accounts by themselves.


People's Bank rewards Jaya Sri winner

The first prize of the Jaya Sri 2013 draw for June, a Suzuki Alto car, was won by S. B. Kokwewa of Kottagashandiya.

"I've been a customer of the People's Bank for over 35 years. I was happy when I got to know that I won the first prize for June at the Jaya Sri draw. I advise everyone to carry out their banking requirements with the People's Bank. I'm sure everyone will be a winner with the People's Bank."

Monthly draws will be held throughout the year for Jaya Sri 2013. It will end with a grand draw.


Etisalat adds new flagship stores

Etisalat Lanka expanded its flagship store network by opening two new flagship stores in Ja-ela and Negombo.

The Ja-ela flagship store was opened at the K-Zone shopping complex while the Negombo flagship store is a revamped and upgraded sales and service access point.

The expansion is part of the first phase of the flagship store project where sales and service access points are upgraded, thereby increasing the number of touch points for customers to access Etisalat services in Colombo and the suburbs.


Janashakthi bags award for Annual Report

Janashakthi Insurance bagged a gold medal for its Annual Report at the Vision Awards 2010-11 annual report competition hosted by the League of American Communications Professionals (LACP) in the USA. "The report obtained 98 points out of 100 to be among the top 50 regional entries," a spokesman for the company said.

"The Janashakthi Annual Report was recognised for the message, narrative, visual design that collaborated with the message, creativity and relevance," he said.


DIMO, a 'great place to work' - Survey

Diesel and Motor Engineering PLC (DIMO) has been identified as one of the Great Places to Work in 2013 according to a survey carried out in Sri Lanka. The DIMO Tribe had confirmed DIMO as a great place to work.

Each year, Great Place to Work partners with over 5,500 organisations with some 10 million employees worldwide to conduct the largest annual set of workplace culture studies in the world. The research which is laser-focused helps top leaders create their own great workplaces.

 


Airtel brings live prayers from Mecca

To spread the spirit of Ramazan this season, Bharti Airtel Lanka, a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel, has introduced a Mobile Islamic devotional zone, where subscribers can access many devotional services through one toll free number. This service requires customers to dial one number to access various services befitting the Ramazan season such as Quran recitals and live video and audio streaming from Mecca. Live prayers from Mecca can also be viewed.

 


DHL awards Gogreen Certificate to Chartered Bank

DHL, a logistics company, has awarded Standard Chartered Bank Sri Lanka, a carbon credit certificate for using the company's carbon neutral shipment option DHL Gogreen. Standard Chartered Bank is the first company to receive this certificate from DHL in Sri Lanka. Standard Chartered Bank Sri Lanka offsets for 2012 were 5,000 kg of CO2 through DHL Gogreen products and services. Deutsche Post DHL carbon management offsets the carbon emissions generated by transportation through climate protection projects around the world including a biomass and a hydro power plant in India and Brazil and a wind farm in China.


Asian Alliance ties up with eZ Cash

The strategic partnership between Asian Alliance and Dialog Axiata will enable 60,000 policyholders of Asian Alliance life and general insurance to pay their premiums direct without the intervention of sales officers on their own or at 14,000 plus eZ Cash outlets. Subscribers of eZ Cash can also access the Asian Alliance branch network islandwide to send and receive cash from villages to bustling cities.


Allianz Lanka rewards top performers


Allianz Lanka held its 'Allianz Awards 2013' recently to felicitate outstanding employees. The best and brightest of its team were awarded trophies, cash rewards and overseas holidays for their performance during 2012. Allianz Champion of Champions 2012, Janith Fernando with his trophy and cheque for an all-expense paid tour of Egypt and Nile cruise. Ircon presents computers to schools


As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, Ircon International Limited, India, distributed computers and computer furniture to five under-privileged schools in the Matugama area. Transport Minister Kumara Welgama presented the computers and the furniture to the schools recently. General Manager, Ircon, S L Gupta was present. Maliyadeva Primary School, Pelenda Tamil School, Uskvali Tamil Vidyalaya, Pelenda Maha Vidyalaya and Pelenda Muslim Vidyalaya benefited from this project. Here Minister Welgama opens a computer room.
