I won a lottery prize!
On our way home from school my sister and I bought a lottery ticket.
It was a Vasana Sampatha lottery. It was drawn on the same day and
televised on Rupavahini at 9.35 p.m.
When I checked the winning numbers, I could not believe my eyes.
I was very happy and I jumped in joy because I had won the first
prize.
On the next day, we went to collect the lottery prize of Rs. 2
billion. My parents and the staff of the Lotteries Board congratulated
me.
My sister and I want to be doctors in the future and I thought I
should spend the money on our education. I also hope to buy a luxury
house and a new car. However, all this happened in a dream!

The teacher I admire most
Recall your sweet memories you had in Grade one. Those days didn’t
you attend school with great interest than today? Why? Wasn’t it because
of your fine class teacher who related interesting stories?
I can still remember how I hurried to school without having my
breakfast properly, though it was delicious, to listen to the stories my
teacher related. They took me to a fairyland and I went on mental tours
in every corner of the world! Sometimes, I found myself in a monstrous
circus where elephants trumpeting and monkeys chattering. And the
imaginary friends in those stories provided me with a gigantic company.
My teacher, who treated us as her own children trained us to
distinguish good from bad like a swan that separates milk from water.
Though I am studying in Grade nine, my spirit is still settled
comfortably in a corner of my Grade one classroom.
If I could listen to wonderful fairy tales related by my teacher once
again I would eat all the vegetables in my lunch box!
My teacher consoled me when I was depressed. She pointed out my
shortcomings and weaknesses. Whenever I was sour faced my teacher stood
by me.
Oh! teacher, I was so lucky to have been one of your students.

to me. Her name is Ranmuthu. She is good and kind-hearted. She makes
tasty food.
She is the only person who can give me what I need. My mother looks
after me. When I fall ill she looks after me. She wants me to study well
and get through the scholarship examination, so that she could be proud
of me. She wants me to become a doctor. I would like to fulfil her
wishes and make her happy.
When I do something wrong she corrects me.
I really love and admire her very much.

Parent’s love towards children
The bond between parents and children is incredibly strong. The main
reason is that parents and children are linked with their blood. This
unique tie distinguishes it from any other interpersonal relationship.
The love between children and parents is special, whether they are
with their children for two or 12 hours a day. Parents are special to
children.
They make the difference during their childhood. Furthermore, they
make a great impact on their lives. Parents’ love towards their children
is eternal.
When I was a little boy my mother asked me to set the table every
evening. She said, to gain something, you should put in your work. When
I grew older, I learnt the value of responsibilities.
It was though these small things that I learnt the art of living.

Nature's beauty
Listen to what you hear
Do you hear the soft breeze,

Whispering through the leaves,
Look around for a moment,
Do you smell the scented wind,
Sweet with the perfume,
Of a wild rose blend.
Nice to see the dew drops sparkle
and shine,
As the morning sun touches,
Each one of them,
All sights beautiful – but not rare,
Always around you,
If you care to see,
The beauty of nature,
You may see it as a paradise,
Love nature, care for it,
Preserve it,
As tomorrow may be too late.

I love my parents

My parents gave me life,
To live in this wonderful world
Teenagers try to keep company with friends,
But I always wish to be with you.
Every girl faces problems in life,
She needs help from society,
In difficult times
I'm sure you'll protect me.
Both of you love me
We share both happiness
and sorrow
Our relationship is eternal
The bond is permanent.

My wish
I live in the town,
Crowded with men and women,
There are buses, cars and trams,
I wish there were meadows and lambs,
The houses are built in a row,
There is smoke everywhere I go,
The noise is deafening,
I wish there were flora and fauna.

Doing the impossible
If I could do the impossible,
I would fly like a bird,

Over the seas and shores,
Valleys and hills.
If I could do the impossible,
I would have four legs,
Mew like a cat,
Fly like a bat.
If I could do the impossible,
I would have green skin, and a tail,
Have some scales,
And look like a tattooed iguana.
If I could do the impossible,
I would have four paws,
All with claws,
And look like snow with straws.
If I could do the impossible,
I would rule the world,
Tell hens to lay ice cubes,
Dogs to wail, doors to sing,
Oh! if only I could do the impossible.
