The Egyptian Exiles in Ceylon

Arthur C. Dep's The Egyptian Exiles in Ceylon (Sri Lanka) was launched recently as an author publication.

The focus of the book is on Orabi Pasha and his companions who arrived in Ceylon in 1883. To the Muslims of Ceylon he was a hero who fought a mighty Empire for the freedom of the people from foreign yoke. To the surprise of the authorities the Muslims gave him a rousing welcome.

With the passage of time, grossly exaggerated accounts of Orabi Pasha's adventures began to spread until he became a legendary hero. The author has collected the facts and presented to readers leaving out fictional elements.


Historical & Social Studies

A.C. Dep's Historical & Social Studies, edited by Priyasath Dep, was launched recently as an author publication. The book consists of a collection of articles written by the author who was the Deputy Inspector General of Police from 1965 to 1972.

His first book History of the Ceylon Police Volume 2 was one of the best books dealing with any branch of the Public Service of the island.


Lost in You

Noel Nadesan's latest novel Lost in You was launched recently as a Vijitha Yapa publication. It is the English translation of his second novel published in India by Mithra Publications in Tamil.

Nadesan is a veterinarian in Melbourne, Australia. His first novel Vannathikulam (Butterfly Lake) was based on his veterinary practice in Sri Lanka, India and Australia.


Mathaka Sevaneli

A.C.M. Karamath's Mathaka Sevaneli was launched recently by Thothanna Publishing House, Anamaduwa.

Mathaka Sevaneli is the authentic Sinhala translation of L. Murugapoopathy's anthology of short stories titled Shadows of Memories.

Born in Negombo and domiciled in Australia Murugapoopathy has won literary awards for novels and short stories.
