External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris met Ambassadors and High Commissioners based in Colombo recently at his private residence, for an informal discussion. High Commissioners Yashwardana Kumar Sinha (India), Azmi Zainuddin (Malaysia), Femi Akenson Rotimi (Nigeria), Qasim Qureshi (Pakistan), Ambassadors Anwar Al-Agha (Palestine), Marcelo Leonardo da Silva Vasconcelos (Brazil), Harimawan Suyitno (Indonesia) and Choi Jong- Moon (Korea) were present. Leader of the House and Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Management, Nimal Siripala de Silva was also associated with Prof. Peiris.


Construction work on the Broadlands Hydropower Project was launched at Kithulgala on Monday, under the patronage of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa. The project which is estimated to cost US$ 82 million will add 35 MW to the national grid. Here Minister Rajapaksa unveils the plaque at the location. Power and Energy Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Public Management Reforms Minister Navin Dissanayake, Private Transport Minister C.B. Ratnayake, Sabaragamuwa Province Chief Minister Mahipala Herath and Chairman, Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council, Kanchana Jayaratne are also in the picture.


President of Sri Kalyanodaya Organisation, Kandy, Wimalasena Kalugamage and its Secretary, Ashoka Hitihamy accompanied by other members offered a Golden Sannas Pathraya to the Sacred Tooth Relic to mark the end of cattle slaughter in Kandy city after
148 years.


The Save-the-Cattle project of the Young Men’s Buddhist Association of Dehiwala was successfully completed under the guidance of President, Y.M.B.A. Dehiwala – Mt. Lavinia,
