What colours tell us

A string of white flags

A string of white flags or black flags drawn across the road is a familiar sight in our country. It tells passers-by that there is a funeral house down the road. The flags help those coming for the funeral to locate the house. If the flags are black the deceased is a Christian/Catholic. White flags denote the deceased is a Buddhist.

Blue flag with a white square

Blue Peter, the blue flag with a white square is hoisted by a ship before sailing.
Look around, think awhile, and other examples of ‘What Colours Say’ will come to mind.

A yellow flag

Sometimes the flags are yellow, because the deceased is a Bhikkhu.

A yellow flag is also displayed by a ship if someone with an infectious disease is on board. A hospital ship or a ship in quarantine also displays a yellow flag.
