Graduate teachers for schools in remote areas

As instructed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Ministry of Public
Administration and Home Affairs has planned to employ newly recruited
graduates to teach English Language, Maths and Science subjects in
government schools in remote areas in the country.
About 52,000 graduates are now employed at government departments and
Ministries, and from them, qualified graduates would be selected and
given teaching appointments in schools in difficult areas as a severe
shortage of teachers have been reported in schools in such areas.
Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister W.D.J. Seneviratne is
planning to discuss the matter with the Education Minister Bandula
Gunawardena on how to implement this novel project for the benefit of
the future student generation, the Director of Education W.M.
Balasooriya told a meeting of heads of government schools in the
Kurunegala District, at the Bingiriya MMV. Peoples' representatives and
public and voluntary organisations praised the decision of the President
to solve the existing shortage of school teachers islandwide, that has
irked parents, Balasooriya said. |
