Heroin causes woman’s death

A woman who was about to be taken into custody by the police in Borella died after taking heroin. The victim, Raja Shyamalee 51, was a resident of Serpentine Road in Borella, police said. Borella Police had raided a house on Friday night and arrested a woman alleged to have possessed narcotics.

The police seized several sachets of heroin along with the suspect. Seeing the approaching policemen the suspect had allegedly chewed a packet of drugs and swallowed it. She was however taken to the Borella Police Station but had lost consciousness immediately. She was rushed to the National Hospital Colombo but had died after admission. The post mortem was to be held last evening.
