Customs thwart gem-smuggling attempt
A passenger who had concealed 32 gemstones of nine varieties in his
rectum was apprehended at the Bandaranaike International Airport by
customs officials on Friday night. The stones, valued at Rs. 8 million
were to be smuggled out to Singapore, wrapped in condoms.
The suspect has been identified as a 56-year-old resident of Beruwala.
A team of officers led by Customs Superintendent S.A.S.P. Senanayake is
conducting investigations.
