Charter of guidelines for orphanages

The Ministry of Child Development and Women's Affairs has issued a charter of guidelines for children's orphanages. It contains guidance and standards that all children's orphanages in the country should follow.

Accordingly, children's orphanages now functioning by charity organisations and other voluntary organisations would be regulated and supervised in the future under this program. The introduction of the charter is expected to safeguard the rights of children and provide due affection to orphans who are in children's homes island wide, Minister of Child Development and Women's Affairs, Tissa Karaliyedda told the Sunday Observer.
