Nine university colleges to be set up

Ministry of Youth Affairs and Skills Development has decided to set up nine university colleges in the island during this year.

These colleges will provide diploma and higher diploma courses on practical and vocational training for local and foreign job-seekers. These colleges will provide vocational training courses at NVQ Level 5 and Level 6. Over 75,000 unskilled educated youths would be trained on jobs of their choice at these university colleges and they would be assured of lucrative job opportunities locally and internationally.

The first of these proposed university colleges will be set up in Kuliyapitiya, Kurunegala under 'Deyata Kirula 2014' national development program, said the Minister of Youth Affairs and Skills Development Dullus Alahapperuma at the ceremony of laying foundation stone to the proposed building complex of Kuliyapitiya University College held recently at Kuliyapitiya Technical College premises.
