World Children's Day on October 1

The Ministry of Child Development and Women's Affairs has decided to commemorate World Children's Day, October 1 in a meaningful manner.

The Minister of Child Development and Women's Affairs Tissa Karaliyedda has guided the Childcare and Probation Department to put up dwellings for the low-income families of clever and talented schoolchildren. Accordingly, 25 houses will be built covering the 25 administrative districts. A deserving family will be selected from each administrative district. The Commissioner of Probation and Childcare Department Mrs. Yamuna Perera, told at a media conference in Kurunegala recently, that Rs. 900,000/- would be allocated for the construction of a house under the proposed program.

Meanwhile, 5,000 needy students in remote government schools in the Kurunegala and Puttalam districts of the NWP will receive study materials and uniform materials at a cost of Rs 10 million on World Children's Day. The Kurunegala district business community has consented to donate funds for this worthy cause, the Director of Education W.M. Balasooriya said at a meeting of school heads of the Kurunegala district held recently in Kurunegala.
