Toxicology, marine medicine, aviation courses for docs on the cards

The Government Medical Officers Association ( GMOA) is due to meet the Health Secretary Dr Nihal Jayatileke and Director of the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine this month to discuss the possibility of introducing several new trail blazing courses for doctors, in keeping with the current needs of the country.

“The country’s first course on Human Nutrition was initiated early this week following a proposal we made to the Health Minister. Following this, the next step would be to start an MD course in Toxicology and Nutrition, after which we will discuss the possibility of setting up a Toxicology Centre which too will be a first in the country.

Additionally, we hope to get approval to start a diploma course in aviation for doctors since we have two harbours and two airports and it is important that doctors be made aware of any health aspects linked to these developments”, GMOA spokesman Dr Nalinda Herath told the Sunday Observer..
