New 100m meet record by Himasha

Himasha Eshan of Kalutara Vidyalaya who took part in a meet after lapse of one year made a sensational come back setting up a new meet record with a time of 10.70 seconds in the boys 100 metres third heat on the second day of the Sir John Tarbet Senior Athletics Meet at the Sugathadasa Stadium Yesterday.

The 19-year-old athletes broke the record timing of 10.73 set up by Shehan Ambepitiya of Gateway College in 2008 meet in Colombo.

HI Sandaruwan of the Walala A Ratnayake College set a new record by winning the boys Under-20 pole vault final with the height of 4.50 metres breaking his own record of 4.20m set up last year.

In the girls 800m finals UK Jayasundara of Walala A Ratnayake College clinched the first place setting up a new meet record with a timing of 2:14.95 min erasing the previous best timing of 2:15.9 by Nelum Karunaratne in 2005.

CL Hettigama of Sumana Balika Vidyalaya Ratnapura set up a new meet record in the girls Under-20 400m hurdles finals winning the first place with a timing of 1:02.67 min. Hettigama erased the previous record of 1:03.24 held by MN Kalupahana of the same school in 2006.

In the boys 400m hurdles, Harsha Chathuranga of St Peter’s College timed 53.35 seconds to set up a new meet record erasing the previous record of 55.02 set by Lahiru Prasanjith of Thakshila College, Horana in 2011. In the same event , DA Vidusanka of St Mary’s College, Kegalle bettered the previous record with the time of 55.00 seconds securing the second place.

Lahiru Prasanjith of Thakshila College, Horana, who held the under-18 400m hurdle record, established a new meet record yesterday in the boys under-20 400m hurdles event with a remarkable time of 53.77 seconds. Prasanjith broke the record timing of 53.85 set by NH Seneviratne of Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa in 2009.

Newstead Girls College Negombo’s Vidusha Lakshani recorded a superb distance of 11.82m to win the first place. Lakshani established a new meet record erasing the the previous record of 11.67m set by VD Priyadarshani in 2007.

In the morning session, boys under-20 5000m race walking event, SC Bangamuwage of Makandura Central College clocked 23:41.70 min to established a new meet record breaking the old record of 25:05.07 set by MG Subasana of the same school while Tharanga Lakmal of Royal College Horana bettered the previous record with a timing of 24:16.84 min.

200 Hurdles Under-20 Boys: 1. J. Lahiru Prasnjith (Thakshila College, Horana 53.77 sec. (NMR), 2. Sohan Madushanka (De Mazoned College, Kandana) 53.80 sec., 2. O.D. Ishan Lahiru (Thakshila College, Horana) 55.42 sec.

Shot Put Under-16 Girls: 1. Resuree Wijesundara (Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo 9.80 m, 2. Jaane Gayana Silva (Ave Maria Convent, Negombo) 9.47 m, 3. S. Fernando (Lyceum International College, Wattala) 9.09 m.

400 Hurdle Under-18 Boys: 1. Harsha Chathuranga (St. Peter’s College, Colombo) 53.35 sec (NMR), 2. R.D.A. Vidusanka (St. Mary’s College, Kegalle) 55.00 sec (Better Previous Record), 3. A.M. Hasinthaka Dhayan (Central College, Kuliyapitiya 55.71 sec.

Long Jump Under-16 Girls: 1. P.W. Dasuni Vinodya (Central College, Kuliyapitiya) 5.34 m.

400 Hurdles – Under-16 Boys: 1. G.W.C. Silva (Wijeyaba National School, Maho) 58.15 sec., 2. P. Harriprasanna (Trinity College, Kandy) 58.62 sec., 3. W. Prabath Sadeera (Gurukula College, Kelaniya) 59.62 sec.

5,000 m R/Walking Under-20 Boys: 1. S.C. Bangamuwage (Makandura Central 23.41.90 min (NMR), 2. B.W. Tharanga Lakmal (Royal College, Horana) 24.16 min (BPR), 3. O.G.M.C. Somasooriya (Vijaya Vidyalaya, Matale) 25.26 min.
