New NDB head optimistic about 2014
The NDB Bank will launch many initiatives in line with the
expectations of the government and support the business community, said
Sunil Wijesinghe who assumed duties as Chairman of NDB Bank last week.
He said NDB has been a professionally managed bank and it is led by a
senior banker. Perhaps it has not realised its full potential. “We are
confident with a professional team the bank will achieve its goals,” he
said. The NDB Bank which has over 70 branches across the country has
achieved many milestones and has been a major contributor to the
economy.
Sunil Wijesinghe replaces Hemaka Amarasuriya who has retired.
Wijesinghe said that the recent debenture launched by the bank is in
line with the growth strategy to obtain funds for its growth. He said
the bank has been mindful of the need to support SMEs which makes a
major contribution to the economy.
The banking sector will do well as the country is entering the next
phase of growth following a time of consolidation. The infrastructure
has improved and there is potential for all sectors to grow, Wijesinghe
said.
Wijesinha is the President of the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri
Lanka and the former Chairman and MD of Dankotuwa Porcelain PLC. |
