Cover: traditional dance
Our staff photographer Ruwan De Silva was at hand to photograph a
bevy of girls doing a traditional dance at an event at Kularatne Hall,
Ananda College. A host of children from orphanages and from homes for
the physically and mentally handicapped performed at the event. First
Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa graced the occasion.
Back cover: Where the brown Sambhur roams
Our staff photographer Susantha Wijegunasekera captured this
wonderful picture of a sambhur in the precincts of Horton Plains.
The largest species of deer in Sri Lanka is the Sambhur which is not
less than one and a half metres in height at the shoulder and weighs
over three hundred kilograms. The feeding habit of Sambhur which prefers
to live in rocky hilly terrain is to browse the under growth while
grazing occasionally. |
