CAA to educate women on home-made cosmetics

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) will initiate a program this week to educate women on how to use herbal material in their gardens to make safe home-made cosmetics.

“We hope this initiative will wean women away from using harmful substandard imported cosmetics that have flooded retail outlets and used in beauty parlours on clients with adverse results”, CAA Information Director, Ms Chandrika Thilakeratne told the Sunday Observer.

The list of natural herbal ingredients to be used are turmeric, aloe vera, venivalgeta, sudu handun, karpincha, lime, kohomba and fruits among other raw materials.

The program at Gampaha on December 10, in conjunction with the Gampaha District Secretariat Office and the Gampaha Ayurveda Institute, will target members of the Gampaha District Secretariat Office and women leaders from the Women’s Bureau, Sanasa, Sarvodaya and other women’s organisations.

“This is our second district level program to create consumer awareness among women and we expect over 150 women to participate”, Ms Thilakarathne said.
