Medical assistance for Philippines' typhoon victims
Sri Lanka has deployed a 23-member medical team comprising specialist
doctors, nurses and support staff to the Philippines to assist the
victims of the Typhoon Haiyan.
The team met President Mahinda Rajapaksa last week before their
departure to the Philippines.
Typhoon Haiyan, one of the strongest storms ever to hit land, packing
winds of nearly 190 miles/hour smashed through the central Philippines
last month. The super storm left over 5,632 dead, 1,759 missing, 26,000
injured and 3.8 million homeless in the Asian nation.
