Up Country Lions in resounding win over Hambantota Sharks
Up Country Lions Sports Club notched up their second win in the
Dialog 'A' Division League with an easy 30 points (two goals, two tries,
two penalties) to 6 (two penalties) win over Hambantota Sharks after
leading 16-6 at Jayatilleke Stadium, Nawalapitiya yesterday.
The homesters opened scoring through an unconverted try by centre
Kanchana Ramanayake which was followed by another unconverted try by fly
half Nigel Ratwatte.
Then the Hambantota Sharks reduced the deficit through two penalties
put over by centre Saislanga Afmasage but the Up Country Lions went
ahead further when Shanaka Kumara fired across two penalties to give
them a 16-6 lead at the breather.
On resumption, the homesters dominated and scored two more tries
through skipper and scrum half Srinath Sooriyabandara and their Tongan
centre Tevita Taufui both are which were converted by Shanaka Kumara to
give Up Country Lions a runaway 30 points to 6 win to the jubilation of
his team-mates.
